GOVERNMENT CAMP, Oregon (KPTV/Gray News) – Dramatic footage has been released showing the daring rescue of a 55-year-old climber who fell 700 feet on Mount Hood’s challenging Old Chute route.

The incident occurred on a Saturday morning when the climber lost his footing on the icy surface and was unable to halt his descent. Despite the severity of the fall, the man miraculously escaped with non-life-threatening injuries, as confirmed by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Off-duty military medics who witnessed the fall sprang into action, descending to assist the injured climber. Additionally, Mount Hood National Forest rangers provided crucial first aid before Search and Rescue teams arrived on the scene.

Thanks to favourable weather conditions, an Air National Guard helicopter was able to swiftly airlift the climber to a hospital in Portland for further medical treatment. The injured individual has been identified as Chris Zwierzynski, a resident of Arizona.
