Anthony Thomas Moran, a 32-year-old resident of N.C. 226 South in Nebo, was taken into custody on Tuesday by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He faces serious charges including felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when a Public Safety Officer pulled over Moran’s 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser on Interstate 40 Eastbound in Morganton. The reason for the traffic stop was an expired inspection, but upon further investigation, the officer discovered illegal substances in Moran’s possession.
Upon searching the vehicle, the officer found .5 grams of Xanax and .5 grams of fentanyl. Moran was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Burke County Jail, where he is being held without bond on a 48-hour hold. He is scheduled to appear in District Court in Morganton on Thursday for a hearing.
