In a shocking turn of events, Sheriff Chad Chronister announced the arrest of 24-year-old William Lewis Jr., the man responsible for ramming into a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy. The incident occurred on the night of July 5, when K-9 Deputy Kalin Hall attempted to pull over Lewis, who was driving a black BMW erratically in the area of Nebraska and Bearss avenues in Tampa.

Attempted Escape and Assistance

Despite initially stopping for Hall’s flashing lights, Lewis quickly sped off as soon as the deputy exited his vehicle. Hall, trained in tracking down suspects, located the BMW backed into a parking lot at a nearby apartment complex within 25 minutes. However, as Hall approached the vehicle, Lewis made a reckless move, using the car to run over the deputy before fleeing the scene.

After the incident, Lewis contacted his girlfriend, Keilise Garrison, for help. Garrison then reached out to Lewis’ mother to arrange for his pickup, while Lewis abandoned the BMW about a mile away from where he hit Hall.

Arrests and Charges

Following an investigation, Lewis was traced back to the BMW as the registered owner. When authorities arrived at his residence with a search warrant, Lewis initially denied involvement and refused to cooperate. However, incriminating evidence, including the discovery of his car keys and phone, eventually led to his arrest.
