A man and a woman were engaged in a heated argument outside a Lake Highlands apartment complex last week, just moments before gunshots were heard by a nearby witness. According to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by The Dallas Morning News, the incident took place in the early hours of the morning.
Police Response
Dallas police officers were called to a “disturbance armed encounter” in the 9500 block of Royal Lane, near Abrams Road, at around 7:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of 47-year-old Unetria Williams inside the apartment. She had been fatally shot.

Demarcus Gates, 40, has been charged with murder in connection to the death of Williams. As of Monday, it was unclear whether he had legal representation.
Witness Testimony
According to a witness statement provided to the police, both Williams and Gates were seen arguing outside a silver Chevrolet Camaro, each armed with a firearm. The witness reported hearing multiple gunshots shortly after contacting emergency services.
Girlfriend’s Involvement
Gates’ girlfriend informed the police that she had rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from Williams. She could hear the argument between Williams and Gates from outside the apartment. The girlfriend managed to persuade Gates to leave the premises, leading to his arrest by the authorities.
Crime Scene Details
During a search of the apartment, law enforcement officers discovered Williams’ body in a bedroom, wearing a blue dress and with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The witness recounted seeing Gates with a firearm after honking their vehicle’s horn at the Camaro, which was obstructing their path. Gates allegedly made threatening statements before exiting the apartment.
Suspect Interrogation
Following his arrest, Gates was questioned by the police and waived his Miranda rights. He claimed to have no recollection of the events and suggested that Williams may have been suicidal. However, when confronted with the evidence of her multiple gunshot wounds, Gates hesitated to provide a clear account of the incident.
Legal Proceedings
Gates is currently being held in Dallas County custody on a $500,000 bond. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death is ongoing.
