(KWNO)-A violent incident at a Winona business on Monday evening resulted in a chain of conflicting emergency alerts that left residents in the area feeling bewildered. The Winona Police Department reported that at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Monday, a male individual attacked an employee at a business located in the 250 block of Junction Street using a sharp object. The assailant, identified as 25-year-old Stig Ure, then quickly fled the scene on foot, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

Upon receiving the report, both the Winona County Sheriff’s Office and the Winona Police Department issued shelter-in-place orders for residents living in the vicinity as they embarked on a search mission to locate Ure. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, a separate emergency alert system sent out a message erroneously warning of an active shooter in the area. It is important to note that this particular platform is not affiliated with any law enforcement agency and there was never any active shooter present in the vicinity.

As the search for the suspect continued into the evening, a concerned citizen contacted the authorities at approximately 9:30 p.m. after spotting an individual crawling through the weeds along Highway 61. Law enforcement officers promptly responded to the scene and successfully apprehended Stig Ure, placing him under arrest.
