Biswanath, July 9: In a heartbreaking incident, an eight-year-old boy lost his life after a wall collapsed while he was playing at his family’s newly built home. The devastating event occurred in the Selaikhati Gram Panchayat under Balisang Police Station near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Biswanath.

The young victim, identified as Sandeep Dhanwar, was playing by himself at home when the tragic incident unfolded in the absence of his parents.

Recounting the tragic event, the father of the child, Baptist Dhanwar, shared, “Yesterday afternoon, Sandeep was playing alone at home when the wall of the house suddenly gave way, collapsing on him.”

Despite being rushed to the hospital, medical professionals pronounced that the child had tragically passed away.

It is worth noting that the houses in the entire panchayat, including the family’s residence, were being constructed as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Reports indicate that 90% of the construction work on the house had been completed before the devastating incident occurred.

The newly built house, which was erected just a fortnight ago, unexpectedly collapsed, raising concerns among residents regarding the quality of work being carried out by the authorities under the housing scheme.

Beneficiaries are expressing their belief that substandard workmanship has led to the tragic demise of the child.
