The series of unfortunate events involving Indian students in the US has raised concerns within the community.

Deaths of Indian students in the US

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been at least a dozen deaths of Indian and Indian-origin students in the US, prompting officials to address student well-being and safety. The Indian Embassy in Washington and its consulates have been actively engaging with Indian students across the US to ensure their welfare and provide support.

Earlier this year, an Indian student, Mohammed Abdul Arfath, who had been missing since March, was found dead in Ohio. The Consulate General of India in New York expressed deep sorrow and pledged to cooperate with local authorities in investigating the circumstances of his death.

In a separate incident, Sameer Kamath, a 23-year-old Indian-American student at Purdue University, was tragically found dead in a nature preserve in Indiana. These incidents highlight the need for increased safety measures and support for Indian students studying in the US.
