Lancaster, Ohio – A devastating house fire in Lancaster has resulted in the tragic death of a 3-year-old girl and critical injuries to a man, identified as 55-year-old Robert Daniels. The fire, which occurred on June 26 at around 2:59 p.m. on the 800 block of North Pierce Ave, was determined to have been accidentally started by children playing with a lighter.

Upon arrival at the scene, Lancaster fire crews found Daniels receiving medical treatment from a Fairfield County Sheriff’s Deputy in the front yard of the engulfed house. He was subsequently rushed to Ohio State Medical Center in critical condition for further treatment.

Fortunately, 54-year-old Sherry Eck and two young boys were able to escape the burning house before firefighters arrived. However, the young girl was found inside the house and was pronounced dead on the scene.

In addition to the tragic loss of life, a Lancaster firefighter also sustained burn injuries during the rescue operation. They were promptly taken to Fairfield Medical Center for treatment and have since been released.

The investigation into the fire revealed that the house did not have working smoke alarms and suffered extensive damage as a result of the blaze. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in every home.
