BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) – A Bloomington resident, Stephany Flores-Ramirez, has been granted release before her trial after being charged with aggravated DUI following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of her eight-year-old son, Raymundo Bucio Flores.

The court documents revealed that the 35-year-old suspect is facing four counts of aggravated DUI in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on westbound I-74 between Downs and Bloomington. The crash, which took place on Wednesday, has left the community in shock and mourning.

According to the court documents, Ramirez’s vehicle veered across the center median, resulting in a head-on collision in the westbound lane. The impact of the crash was severe, with the other driver sustaining life-threatening injuries and requiring extrication and airlifting to OSF St. Francis.

In a harrowing turn of events, Ramirez initially informed the attending state trooper that there were no children in her vehicle. However, she later corrected her statement, revealing that her son was also in the car at the time of the crash.

Upon closer inspection, one of the troopers discovered the lifeless body of Raymundo Bucio Flores in the rear floorboard of the vehicle, bleeding and unresponsive. The young boy was swiftly transported to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

Further investigations at the scene uncovered the presence of alcohol bottles, including one located in the driver’s side door of Ramirez’s vehicle. The strong smell of alcohol was also noted by the state troopers present, indicating a potential factor in the tragic incident.

Stephany Flores-Ramirez is scheduled for an arraignment hearing later this month, where she will face the charges brought against her in connection with the fatal DUI crash.
