Accident – Death – Obituary News : Nicholas George Savig, a 40-year-old resident of rural Lake Park, has recently been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The prosecution decided to dismiss a felony charge of second-degree controlled substance crime. Court records show that on September 1, 2021, local law enforcement conducted a search warrant at Savig’s residence in Lake Park. During the search, approximately 37 grams of methamphetamine were discovered near an ATV owned by Savig, and he admitted that the meth belonged to him. Additionally, a rifle was found in his bedroom. Savig’s prior conviction for fifth-degree drug possession in 2016 prohibits him from possessing firearms.

On April 19, Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Savig to 60 months in prison at St. Cloud, which was stayed for five years. He was also ordered to serve 90 days in jail, with credit for eight days served, and was fined $500 plus $75 in court fees. As part of his sentence, Savig was prohibited from consuming alcohol or using mood-altering substances and was required to undergo a comprehensive assessment. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.

In a separate case, Savig received a sentence for second-degree drugs after being found in possession of LSD. A felony fifth-degree drug charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement. According to court records, on September 23, 2022, a Becker County officer responded to a driving complaint on Highway 10 and observed Savig crossing the centerline. Savig, who was the driver, was seen attempting to hide something when initially stopped. He confessed to having marijuana in a lunchbox, which was subsequently discovered during a search along with 150 tabs of LSD on one and a half sheets.

In relation to this charge, Thilmony sentenced Savig to 68 months in prison at St. Cloud, which was stayed for five years. He was required to serve 90 days in jail, with credit for six days served, and was fined $500 plus $75 in court fees.

Moving on to another case in Becker County, a felony domestic assault charge against Tasha Rae Burrow, a 41-year-old individual from rural Detroit Lakes, was dismissed in court. The incident took place on the evening of May 28, 2022, at the Country Manor mobile home park, where a deputy responded to a disturbance call. A young man at the scene reported that Burrow, who was visibly intoxicated, was causing a disturbance. When he attempted to escort her out of the residence, Burrow became physically aggressive, resulting in scratches on his neck and nose. The young man mentioned feeling fearful for himself and his sister, as Burrow allegedly kicked him in the face while he tried to restrain her.

During the investigation, the young man’s sister corroborated his account, stating that she witnessed Burrow acting erratically and physically assaulting her brother. Burrow, who had three previous domestic violence convictions in 2015, 2017, and 2020, was found incompetent to stand trial, leading to the dismissal of the felony assault charge on April 18.

Lastly, Andrea Lee Kier, a 41-year-old Detroit Lakes resident, was sentenced in Becker County District Court for misdemeanor fifth-degree assault. As part of a plea deal, felony charges of robbery and third-degree assault were dismissed. The incident occurred outside the Zorbaz restaurant in Detroit Lakes, where Kier and two other women were involved in an altercation with another woman. The victim reported that her purse was stolen and that she sustained injuries requiring medical attention, including a broken nose and facial bruising. Witnesses observed the attack, with one individual describing a woman with black hair and a pink shirt punching the victim in the head. The victim was taken to the emergency room for treatment, where it was discovered that her purse had been stolen.

Kier pleaded guilty on an Alford basis and was sentenced by Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony to 90 days in jail, which was stayed for one year. She was also fined $300 plus $150 in court fees and placed on unsupervised probation for a year..
