Marion, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers in Marion are currently investigating a devastating crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian and injuries to a child on Monday.

According to reports, the incident took place on Center Street near Chicago Avenue in Marion at approximately 11:30 a.m. Troopers were alerted to the crash through emergency calls.

Initial findings suggest that an 85-year-old woman was driving a Ford Escape when she struck a pedestrian, identified as 72-year-old Linda Showalter, while exiting a private driveway onto Center Street.

Tragically, both Showalter and the Escape were subsequently hit by a Kenworth T480 truck travelling east on Center Street. Showalter sustained fatal injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Escape and her passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Marion General Hospital by EMS for treatment.

Authorities have confirmed that at the time of the collision, Showalter had two young children with her – a 7-year-old and a 2-year-old. The 2-year-old sustained minor injuries, while thankfully, the 7-year-old emerged from the accident unharmed.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
