Tragedy struck in Marion on Monday when a Bellville woman, Linda Showalter, 72, lost her life in a devastating two-vehicle crash while walking on a sidewalk. The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. on Center Street near Chicago Avenue, sending shockwaves through the community.
Accompanied by a 7-year-old and a 2-year-old, Showalter was struck by a Ford Escape driven by Sandra Brown, 85, of Marion, as she was pulling out of a private drive onto Center Street. The impact was severe, leading to further collision with a Kenworth T480 truck operated by James McGinnis, 53, also from Marion.
Despite the best efforts of emergency responders on the scene, Showalter succumbed to her injuries. Brown and her passenger, Diane Wilcox, 79, sustained minor injuries and were promptly taken to Marion General Hospital for treatment.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with the Marion City Department of Fire and EMS, Marion Police Department, and Kirby’s Towing, worked tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the tragic incident.
