A 44-year-old man from Hot Springs has tragically lost his life as a result of a shooting incident that took place on Sunday morning in the 400 block of Wade Street. The local authorities have arrested a man believed to be involved in the shooting on a charge of theft by receiving of a firearm.

The Hot Springs Police Department’s Officer 1st Class Omar Cervantes, who serves as the department’s public information officer, released a statement indicating that officers were called to the scene on Wade Street at approximately 6:07 a.m. on Sunday following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered the victim, identified as Johnny Lee Simon, 44, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Sadly, Simon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The authorities identified Essie Fuller III, aged 24, as a suspect in the shooting incident. Fuller was apprehended without resistance at his residence located at 225 Wise St. around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. He has been charged with felony theft by receiving of a firearm, which carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison. Fuller was taken to the HSPD for questioning and subsequently booked into the Garland County Detention Center later that day.

Despite having no prior criminal record, Fuller remains in custody as of Monday, with a bond set at £2,500. He is scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court on the same day.

Details of the Theft Charge and Recovery of the Stolen Firearm

According to the affidavit filed for the theft charge, a woman reported to the HSPD on June 12 that her purple G2C Taurus handgun had gone missing from her vehicle on May 3. She recalled giving a ride to a friend known as “Trey Boogie,” later identified as Fuller, on the day the gun disappeared.

Furthermore, on the morning of the shooting incident, police responded to a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of Illinois Street, which is in close proximity to the location on Wade Street where the shooting took place.

After Fuller was taken into custody for the theft charge, he confessed during police questioning that he had possession of the stolen gun. He admitted to taking the firearm to his residence on Wise Street after the shooting incident. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of the stolen gun, which was confirmed to be the same weapon reported missing.

The investigative file on these incidents has been forwarded to the Garland County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review, with the possibility of additional charges in the future.
