Charlotte, N.C. (WBTV) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is currently investigating two deaths and at least two other shootings that occurred early Tuesday morning. This comes just a day after the department responded to three separate homicides in the area.

The first incident on Tuesday took place shortly before 1 a.m. at the Wyndham Garden hotel on Griffith Road in south Charlotte. Initially classified as a homicide, authorities have since reclassified it as a death investigation. The circumstances surrounding the individual’s death remain unclear at this time.

A second investigation was launched around 1:20 a.m. following a shooting at the intersection of Statesville Avenue and Tipton Drive, near a Pilot truck stop. Responding officers discovered a deceased individual next to a gray car on the road. No further details have been released, and it is unknown if any arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

In addition to the fatalities, at least two other individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the early morning hours. One shooting occurred on Catherine Simmons Avenue, while the other took place on Hilary Circle. Both victims were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

CMPD Major Brett Balamucki addressed the recent surge in violence within the city, emphasizing the profound impact that one impulsive decision can have on an individual and their loved ones.

On Monday, CMPD responded to three homicides, including incidents on Rea Road near Piper Glen Drive, Cinnabay Drive, and Parker Drive. These tragic events have contributed to a total of 66 fatalities in Charlotte so far in 2024, marking an increase from the same period last year.
