Human remains discovered in Maskwacis on June 24 have been positively identified as those of a 17-year-old boy who had been missing since 2022, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Authorities in Maskwacis, located 96 km south of Edmonton and home to four Cree First Nations, were alerted to the presence of the remains and subsequently launched an investigation. The remains were then transported to the medical examiner’s office for further analysis.

After conducting a thorough examination, the medical examiner’s office was able to confirm that the remains belonged to Christopher Crier, a teenager who had disappeared from his residence on Samson Cree First Nation in October of 2022.

RCMP officials released a statement earlier this week, revealing the somber news and expressing their condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. The investigation into Crier’s disappearance and subsequent death is ongoing, with authorities working diligently to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
