The incident came to light when Las Vegas police received a distress call on June 1 reporting that a one-year-old child was unresponsive and not breathing. The child was rushed to the Summerlin Pediatrics Emergency Room, where medical professionals discovered multiple brain bleeds and a broken leg. Despite efforts to stabilize him, the child was later transferred to Sunrise Hospital for emergency neurosurgery, where he tragically passed away three days later.

According to an arrest report, Christian Moniz Rabino, who is not the child’s biological father but had been involved in the child’s life for the past six months through his relationship with the child’s mother, Tautiana. Moniz Rabino claimed that the child had been unwell for several days with a fever before the incident occurred.

Further investigation revealed that the child had sustained head and leg injuries prior to his death. Tautiana, the child’s mother, admitted that the child had fallen off a bed in the apartment two days before the incident, resulting in a head injury. However, she had not sought medical attention for the child at the time.

Medical examinations conducted during the autopsy showed that the child had multiple bruises in various stages of healing on his body, including the forehead, left ear, rib area, and knees. Additionally, broken bones were found in the child’s legs and hand.

The medical examiner stated that the cause of death was pending further investigation, but abusive trauma was believed to be a significant factor. The injuries observed, including retinal hemorrhages and detachment, were consistent with non-accidental trauma.

Following interviews with witnesses and further evidence gathering, Moniz Rabino was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse. He is currently in custody at the Clark County Detention Center awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 7.
