SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Three individuals have been taken into custody following a traffic stop in Springfield on Sunday evening that resulted in the discovery of drugs and illegal firearms.
According to the Springfield Police Department, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. when officers pulled over a vehicle on State Street due to a broken tail light. The driver, identified as Aqil Rios-Thomas, was found to be driving without a valid license and was promptly detained.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers spotted a loaded firearm inside a bag on the front seat, prompting a thorough search of the car.
During the search, law enforcement officers uncovered over $6,000 in cash on two of the suspects, as well as crack-cocaine, oxycodone, marijuana, ammunition, and more than $16,000 in cash inside the vehicle. Additionally, a gun safe containing two large bags of crack-cocaine was also found.
