Accident – Death – Obituary News : A former Kentucky high school basketball coach has been sentenced to 22 years in prison on child pornography charges by a federal judge. Andrew Zaheri, 40, a former coach and teacher at Rowan County, was convicted of producing child pornography involving a student in 2022. According to U.S. District Court Judge David L. Bunning, Zaheri will have to serve 85% of his sentence and will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 22 years upon his release.

The victim’s lawyers released a statement praising the FBI and Assistant U.S. Attorney for their swift actions in providing solace to the victim’s family and protection to the community. They highlighted the grooming and abuse of trust suffered by the victim at the hands of Zaheri, stating that no child should endure such trauma.
Zaheri’s lawyer, Jarrod Beck, declined to comment on the case. Court documents revealed that Zaheri began a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student at Rowan County High School in the summer of 2022. The relationship continued into the school year, with Zaheri engaging in sexual acts with the victim on school premises during school hours. Zaheri admitted to producing sexually explicit images and videos of the victim using his cellular phone.
Zaheri pleaded guilty to the charges in February before Bunning. Following his arrest, Rowan County Schools suspended Zaheri and later terminated his employment. Zaheri is facing two additional court cases with related charges – a civil suit and a state criminal case.
A grand jury indicted Zaheri in May 2023 on 23 counts related to a sexual relationship with a student from June 2022 to February 2023. The charges include rape, sodomy, and promoting a sexual performance by a minor. Zaheri was released on bond with strict conditions and is scheduled for a hearing in July in Rowan County Circuit Court.

In addition to the criminal cases, Zaheri is facing a civil suit filed by a victim identified as Jane Doe. The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the school district, superintendent, and principal of Rowan County High School for failing to address concerns about Zaheri’s behavior towards the victim. The suit seeks monetary and punitive damages.
