In a recent development, more than 2,000 lbs. of frozen ready-to-eat chicken products have been recalled due to potential contamination with listeria. This recall affects Al-Safa Halal chicken products, which were found to have possible listeria contamination during routine testing conducted by the USDA.

While there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products, the USDA’s food safety and inspection service is advising consumers not to consume the recalled chicken. The products in question were produced in Canada and distributed to retail stores across the United States in June.

The specific chicken products included in the recall have been identified as follows:

  • 12.1-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605404” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package.
  • 14.11-oz. cardboard box package containing “Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty” with “NOV 30 25” and “0605416” printed on a sticker on the outside of the package.

Consumers who have purchased these products are strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, the products should be disposed of or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

Listeria contamination can pose a serious health risk, particularly to vulnerable populations such as older adults, individuals with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women and their unborn babies. Symptoms of listeriosis, the infection caused by listeria, can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea.

If anyone is concerned about potential illness related to the consumption of these products, they are urged to seek medical advice from a healthcare provider.

It is crucial for consumers to stay informed about food recalls and take appropriate actions to protect their health and well-being.
