MIAMISBURG — Authorities have provided additional information about a police pursuit that occurred in Montgomery County last month.

On June 23, Dayton Police responded to reports of an individual firing a gun at the US 35 and S. Gettysburg Avenue on-ramp. Two individuals reported the gunshots, with one of them indicating that their vehicle had been struck by the gunfire, according to Lt. Steven Bauer.

Officers located the suspect driving the described vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the suspect fled from law enforcement, sparking a high-speed chase.

During the pursuit, the suspect recklessly discharged a shotgun into the air from the moving vehicle, as confirmed by Bauer.

Dash camera footage obtained by News Center 7 captured the moment when one of the pursuing officers reported, “Shots fired. He just fired shots out the window.”

The chase eventually culminated in a collision between the suspect’s vehicle and another car near the junction of Interstate 75 and State Route 725, resulting in injuries to a bystander.

Subsequent investigations revealed that an 18-year-old female and an 8-month-old infant were also passengers in the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the crash.

The suspect, identified only as a 17-year-old male, attempted to flee the scene following the collision but was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement personnel. Bodycam footage from the incident depicted officers taking the teenager into custody.

Charges filed against the suspect include felonious assault, failure to comply, two counts of kidnapping, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, improper handling of a firearm, discharging a firearm in a prohibited area, and carrying a concealed weapon. The individual has been remanded to the Juvenile Justice Center for further legal proceedings, as confirmed by Bauer.

This incident involved multiple law enforcement agencies responding to the crash scene, underscoring the collaborative effort required to address such dangerous situations.
