An 18-year-old man, William Tchoubah, wanted for armed assault to murder was apprehended after attempting to evade police during a routine traffic stop in Worcester over the weekend, authorities revealed on Monday.
Tchoubah was taken into custody early Saturday morning on two warrants, with charges including possessing a large-capacity firearm, firearm carry without a license loaded, carrying a firearm without a license, and other related firearm offenses. Additionally, he faces accusations of breaking and entering during nighttime, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and trespassing.
According to police reports, Tchoubah had an active warrant for armed assault to murder and various firearm charges resulting from a prior shooting and armed robbery incident on Esther Street.
The incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday when Worcester Police officers spotted a vehicle speeding on Cambridge Street. Upon discovering that the vehicle lacked a valid inspection sticker, the officers proceeded to initiate a stop on Harding Street.

The situation took a turn when a man exited the vehicle from the backseat and fled on foot. Officers observed the individual clutching his waistband as he ran, a behavior indicative of carrying a firearm, as per police statements.
Law enforcement quickly alerted other officers in the vicinity to assist in tracking down the suspect.
Returning to the vehicle, officers found two males inside who denied knowledge of the fleeing individual. Following a brief investigation, both were released.
Shortly thereafter, residents reported witnessing a man matching the suspect’s description running through their yards.
Subsequently, officers located the suspect, later identified as Tchoubah, in a rear stairwell on Ashmont Street.
Concerned that the suspect may have discarded a firearm in a residential area, officers conducted a search of a nearby home on Canton Street. With the homeowners’ consent, a Glock pistol was discovered concealed between cement and a fence.
The firearm was processed by the Crime Scene Unit for further investigation, as per police reports.
