The Cleveland Division of Police has announced plans to pay tribute to the late Officer Jamieson Ritter at a memorial service scheduled for Monday. Ritter tragically lost his life in the line of duty during the early hours of July 4.

Friends Reflect on the Life of Officer Jamieson Ritter:

Tragically, Ritter succumbed to his injuries after being shot in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood. Reports indicate that he and his fellow officers were pursuing a suspect wanted for felonious assault in a suburban area.

“Officers responded to the scene and attempted to engage with the individual,” stated Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd during a press briefing following the incident. “The individual exited the residence and attempted to flee the area on a bicycle. When officers moved to apprehend the suspect, he produced a firearm and opened fire multiple times.”

The suspect in Ritter’s untimely death has been identified as 24-year-old De’Lawnte Hardy, who allegedly shot his grandmother in Garfield Heights using her own firearm just a week prior. Hardy now faces a charge of aggravated murder in connection with Ritter’s passing and is currently detained in the Cuyahoga County Jail on a £5 million bond.

In addition to the memorial service, Ritter’s colleagues organised a memorial run on Saturday morning near the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial to honour his memory.
