MOORHEAD — The caregivers of a 3-year-old boy who tragically passed away in March have been arrested on murder charges. Shiann Erickson and Rosa Garza, residents of Moorhead, have been booked into the Clay County Correctional Facility on charges of second-degree murder without intent for the death of Eastyn Deronjic, according to a press release from the Moorhead Police Department.

Authorities received the results of the autopsy, leading to the arrests of Erickson, 22, and Garza, 24, on Monday morning. The investigation into Deronjic’s death began on March 18 when the police were called to Stonecrest Apartments on Belsly Blvd after receiving a report of a child who was not breathing.

Deronjic’s younger sibling is currently in protective custody as the case unfolds. Family and friends have been demanding answers and justice in the wake of the boy’s tragic passing, with calls for accountability growing louder in recent months.

During a march in June, Eastyn’s grandmother, Adisa Deronjic, expressed the family’s anguish, stating, “Somebody has to be charged and somebody held responsible for Eastyn’s death.”
