Two women are facing charges for allegedly tricking 16 elderly men out of a whopping $7 million in a sophisticated romance scam that spanned over a decade.
Recently, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of 48-year-old Rosanna Lisa Stanley and 37-year-old Gina Guy in North Miami Beach and New York City, respectively. The suspects have been indicted on multiple charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit these crimes.
The elaborate scheme, which began in 2009 and continued until the recent arrests, involved Stanley and Guy establishing relationships with their victims through a combination of in-person meetings, phone calls, text messages, and online dating platforms. While not every victim was romantically involved with the suspects, they managed to gain their trust before persuading them to send large sums of money for various fictitious reasons.
According to reports, the victims were duped into believing in fake business deals, organ transplants, and even kidney transplants, all orchestrated by Stanley and Guy. The culprits allegedly used the ill-gotten funds to fund a lavish lifestyle at the expense of their victims.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams condemned the actions of Stanley and Guy, stating, “As alleged, Rosanna Lisa Stanley and Gina Guy callously defrauded elderly victims who were simply looking for companionship. They allegedly used the millions of dollars in fraud proceeds to lead lives of luxury at their victims’ expense. Perpetrators of romance scams will be held accountable for their crimes.”
Both suspects have been released on $250,000 bond each as they await further legal proceedings. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison for each charge brought against them.
It serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online scams and the importance of remaining vigilant, especially when forming relationships with individuals over the internet. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to prevent falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
