Accident – Death – Obituary News : Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a devotee during the Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra procession in Puri on June 7. In response to the unfortunate incident, Chief Minister Majhi has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh as ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased devotee. Additionally, he has assured free medical treatment for those who were injured during the chariot pulling event in Puri.
The tragic incident occurred when a devotee suffocated during the pulling of Lord Balabhadra’s Taladhwaja chariot at the Rath Yatra in Puri. Despite immediate medical attention, the devotee was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Reports indicate that several others were injured in a stampede-like situation during the festival.
President Droupadi Murmu, along with Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, participated in the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri.
