A man from Davenport was apprehended by Muscatine County law enforcement officers on Sunday, July 7, following a high-speed chase, as reported in a news release.
The incident began when a deputy from the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a motorcyclist for a traffic violation near the intersection of Taylor Avenue and 155th Street at around 7 p.m. However, the motorcyclist refused to stop and instead accelerated, leading the officers on a pursuit.
The pursuit continued south on Taylor Avenue, eventually heading onto Highway 61 and into the City of Muscatine. The motorcyclist’s reckless driving came to a crashing halt on East 2nd Street, where he abandoned the bike and attempted to flee the scene on foot.
Desperate to escape, the suspect then tried to evade capture by entering the waters of Mad Creek. Despite his efforts, law enforcement officers were able to apprehend the man and bring him into custody.

The individual was identified as 30-year-old Michael Edward Zahn, a resident of Davenport. Zahn was subsequently charged with driving while barred and eluding police at a speed exceeding 25 miles per hour over the limit.
