In a heartbreaking turn of events, a mother in Kentucky lost her life while heroically trying to save her daughter during a mass shooting at her son’s 21st birthday party in Florence.
The tragic incident unfolded at the birthday celebration of 44-year-old Melissa Parrett’s son at their family home, with the shooter identified as 21-year-old Chase Garvey. Despite not being invited to the party, Garvey was acquainted with those in attendance.
During the shooting, Garvey opened fire, injuring seven people, with four individuals tragically losing their lives at the scene. One of the survivors, 19-year-old Chloe Parrett, who is a student at Eastern Kentucky University, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital to recover from her serious injuries.
Chloe’s father, Bruce Parrett, shared with WKYT that Melissa bravely sacrificed herself in an attempt to shield their daughter from harm, leaving a lasting impact on their family. Bruce, who was not present at the birthday party but rushed to the scene upon receiving the distressing news, described the harrowing sight that greeted him.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and later succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. This devastating incident marked the first mass shooting ever reported in Florence, as per WKYT.
While three individuals remain hospitalized, they are expected to make a full recovery.
