A heartbreaking discovery was made on Saturday morning in the Illinois River near Bartonville, as a 14-year-old boy from Bloomington was found dead. The Peoria County coroner, Jamie Harwood, identified the young victim as Leron Griffin. Harwood revealed that Griffin had tragically drowned in the river and had likely been in the water for no more than two days before being discovered by a fisherman around 9:30 a.m. on the Peoria County side of the river near the Shade-Lohmann Bridge.

Harwood’s Facebook post confirmed that there was no evidence of foul play or injury to Griffin’s body. However, a toxicology report is still pending to determine if any substances were involved in his death. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding how Griffin ended up in the river.
