The Kwara State Police Command arrests a 46-year-old man for attempting to kill a 10-year-old boy selling pepper in Ilorin
The Kwara State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the case of a 10-year-old boy who was nearly killed while selling pepper in Ilorin, the state capital. The suspect, identified as Isiaka Adeniyi, aged 46, was apprehended in the Oke-Foma area of Ilorin West Local Government Area on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Confirming the incident, State Police Public Relations Officer Ejire-Adeyemi Toun released a statement on Sunday, shedding light on the details of the attempted murder. Adeniyi allegedly lured the young boy into a room under false pretenses.
The statement from the police read, “On July 2, 2024, a report was received from Onidoko Police Post regarding an incident that took place in the Abab Oke-Foma area of Ilorin. A 10-year-old boy, who was hawking pepper in the area, was lured into a room by a suspect identified as Isiaka Adeniyi. The suspect, instead of purchasing pepper as promised, covered the victim’s face with a cloth and attempted to harm him with a knife.

The swift action of vigilant community members led to the apprehension of the suspect, who was subsequently brought to the police station for further investigation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough and discreet inquiry.
Commenting on the incident, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, commended the proactive efforts of the community in ensuring the safety and security of residents. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the public in combating crime and ensuring justice is served.
