Billy Buuts, a neighboring farmer, was arrested for the murder and later confessed to the crime. Buuts claimed he wanted to scare Mrs. Ylitalo into divorcing her husband and marrying him but accidentally killed her in the process.

The community was shocked by the senseless act of violence, and Buuts’ confession brought a sense of closure to the tragic event. The Superior Trap and Gun Club also made headlines with top performances from Jerry Bolin, Kirk Krause, and Bill Welter in a recent competition.
