A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder following a tragic incident on Detroit’s west side. The incident took place near the intersection of Warwick Street and Vassar Drive at around 9 p.m on June 4. Police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered a man, identified as 29-year-old Richard Shorts, lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, Shorts succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Authorities believe that an altercation between Shorts and the suspect, Dwaine Thomas Hunt III, escalated to a deadly confrontation. Allegedly, Hunt seized a firearm from an unidentified individual and proceeded to shoot Shorts multiple times, resulting in his untimely demise.

After an intensive investigation, Hunt was apprehended on July 1 and subsequently charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and two counts of felony firearm possession. He was denied bail and has been remanded to custody pending further legal proceedings.

Hunt is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing on July 11. If convicted of the charges levelled against him, he could potentially face a life sentence behind bars.
