Accident – Death – Obituary News : The main coordinator of a religious gathering in northern India, where a tragic stampede resulted in the loss of 121 lives last week, has turned himself in to the authorities, according to his legal representative. The incident took place in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh state, marking one of the deadliest disasters of its kind in the country in over a decade. The majority of the victims were women and children who had gathered for the satsang, a Hindu religious assembly.

The chaos unfolded as the event concluded, and a surge of attendees moved towards the preacher who was preparing to depart in his vehicle. The overwhelming crowd led to a tragic crush, sparking national outrage and raising concerns about safety protocols and crowd control measures. In response to the incident, law enforcement officials announced the arrest of six individuals associated with organizing the gathering.

Subsequently, Devprakash Madhukar, the primary organizer of the event, surrendered to the police in the Najafgarh area of Delhi and was transferred to authorities in Uttar Pradesh. However, his lawyer, AP Singh, clarified that Madhukar had willingly submitted himself to law enforcement for questioning and participation in the investigation.

“We assured that we would present Devprakash Madhukar before the police, cooperate with the inquiry, and engage in the investigation process,” stated Singh in an interview with ANI news agency. “We have handed him over to the special investigation team and the Uttar Pradesh police to facilitate a thorough examination.”

Following his surrender, Madhukar appeared in court and was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. He faces charges of attempted culpable homicide in connection with the tragic incident. The police report revealed that while permission had been granted for 80,000 individuals to attend the gathering, an estimated 250,000 people ultimately congregated at the venue.

According to the complaint, a surge of devotees rushed towards the preacher’s vehicle as he departed, symbolically collecting dust from his path as a gesture of reverence. However, Singh refuted allegations of negligence, attributing the stampede to “anti-social elements” and claiming a “criminal conspiracy” against his client.

Additionally, Singh dismissed reports suggesting that security personnel had exacerbated the situation by forcibly dispersing attendees seeking blessings from Bhole Baba, the spiritual leader presiding over the event. A three-member judicial inquiry commission has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and determine accountability.

The heartbreaking incident in Hathras serves as a stark reminder of the importance of stringent safety measures and effective crowd management protocols during religious gatherings and public events. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are focused on uncovering the truth behind the stampede and ensuring justice for the victims and their families..
