Human remains were discovered in the boot of a burnt-out vehicle at an unoccupied property in west Birmingham exactly one month ago, and have now been positively identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the deceased as Byron Da’Juan Lumpkin, a 29-year-old resident of Birmingham. Identification was made through DNA analysis.
The grim find was made at 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, 8th June, in the 300 block of Barbee Street, as authorities revealed on Monday.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene following reports of a house fire.
After extinguishing the flames, Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates stated that Lumpkin’s remains were discovered in the boot of a burnt vehicle in the carport.
Lumpkin was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:46 a.m., with the cause of death determined to be gunshot wounds alongside smoke and soot inhalation, Yates confirmed.
No arrests have been made as of yet.
