Bryant Wheeler Whitby : Moneta Man Killed in Bedford Crash | Local News

Virginia State Police are currently investigating a devastating two-vehicle collision that resulted in a fatality. The tragic incident took place on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Hardy Road, just two tenths of a mile south of Turner Branch Road in Bedford County.

Reports from authorities indicate that a 2022 Honda Accord was travelling south on Hardy Road when, for reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle crossed over the center-line and collided head-on with a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.

The driver of the Honda has been identified as 52-year-old Bryant Wheeler Whitby, a resident of Moneta, Virginia. Whitby, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was rushed to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical staff, Whitby succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

In addition to Whitby, the 18-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was also wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. He too sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash continues, authorities are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and assist with their inquiries.
