Detectives in Siaya County are currently investigating a tragic incident where a 60-year-old man, identified as Ben Odweso, allegedly stabbed and killed his 55-year-old wife, Pamela Anyango, following a dispute over a sum of Sh30 in Nyalula village.

The unfortunate incident took place on Sunday, July 7 afternoon, reportedly sparked by a disagreement over the missing money, which was intended as a church offering.

Lynching by Mob

Upon learning of the stabbing, a mob quickly formed and retaliated by attacking Odweso with stones and kicks, resulting in his untimely death at the scene.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo revealed that a relative of the deceased reported the incident several hours after it occurred, shedding light on the events leading up to the violent confrontation.

Violent Confrontation

According to Kimaiyo, the couple was in the house with their adult daughter when the argument erupted. Odweso is accused of becoming aggressive when confronted about the missing money, ultimately leading to the fatal stabbing of his wife.

The daughter managed to escape and raise the alarm, prompting locals to rush to the scene. A son of the couple also arrived, only to be attacked by his father with a knife, sustaining injuries to his neck and leg in the process.

Tragic Outcome

Despite efforts to save Odweso’s life, he succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital. The injured son was treated and discharged, as both bodies were taken to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Incidents of this nature have been on the rise, underscoring the importance of peaceful conflict resolution methods to prevent such tragic outcomes.

Similar Tragedy in Nairobi

In a separate incident in Mathare slums, Nairobi, a 25-year-old man named Hashim Abdalla lost his life in a fight at a local changáa den. Abdalla was fatally struck in the neck and head during the altercation and was pronounced dead upon arrival at MSF Hospital.

Police are currently investigating the motive behind the fatal fight, while the search for the assailants continues. The body has been transferred to the mortuary for further examination.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and the devastating consequences of violence in our communities.
