Authorities in Siaya County are currently investigating a tragic incident where a 60-year-old man allegedly stabbed and killed his wife following a dispute over £30. The man, identified as Ben Odweso, was later lynched by a mob in Nyalula village, as per police reports.
The unfortunate event took place on the afternoon of Sunday, July 7. Odweso reportedly killed his 55-year-old wife, Pamela Anyango, after an argument erupted over the missing £30, which was supposed to be used as a church offering.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo shared that a relative of the deceased contacted the authorities several hours after the incident occurred. Initial investigations revealed that the couple, along with their adult daughter, was at home when the disagreement ensued.
Odweso is alleged to have taken the money and, when confronted, resorted to violence, resulting in the tragic death of his wife. The daughter managed to escape and raise the alarm, leading to the intervention of local residents.

Kimaiyo explained that upon arrival at the scene, the couple’s son encountered his father armed with a knife and a metal rod. Odweso proceeded to attack his son, causing injuries to his neck and leg. By this time, a crowd had gathered and stoned Odweso to death.
Following the altercation, Odweso was rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital in critical condition but was declared dead upon arrival. The injured son received medical treatment and was subsequently discharged. The bodies of Odweso and his wife were taken to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsies.
Instances of domestic violence and disputes leading to fatal outcomes have been on the rise, underscoring the need for peaceful conflict resolution methods.
Another Tragic Incident in Mathare Slums, Nairobi
In a separate incident in Mathare slums, Nairobi, a 25-year-old man named Hashim Abdalla lost his life during a brawl at a changáa den on Sunday. Abdalla was among a group of individuals when a disagreement escalated into a physical altercation.
Abdalla sustained fatal injuries to his neck and head, collapsing at the scene. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the nearby MSF Hospital. Police observed visible wounds on his throat caused by a blunt object. The motive behind the fight remains unclear as authorities continue the search for the perpetrators.
