A 25-year-old man, employed as a Gardner at a farmhouse in southwest Delhi, has been apprehended for filming a video of a minor girl while she was bathing in a nearby residence, as per official reports on Monday.
The accused, identified as Anoop Kumar, hailing from district Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody.
DCP (southwest) Rohit Meena disclosed that a 15-year-old girl filed a complaint alleging that on July 7, while she was bathing at her residence in Salapur Kheda in southwest Delhi, she sensed someone’s presence at the bathroom’s ventilator.
Startled, the girl raised an alarm and informed the police, following which the staff from Kapasehra police station arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspect, Anoop Kumar. Upon inspecting his mobile phone, incriminating videos were discovered, Meena stated.

Consequently, a case was lodged under section 77 (voyeurism) of the recently enacted Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and section 12 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, resulting in the arrest of the accused.
The Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita has incorporated a new section on ‘Offences against Woman and Child’, signifying the priority accorded to combatting crimes against women and children.
Section 77 of the BNS addresses the offence of watching, recording, or circulating private images of a woman without her consent. The term “private act” is defined, with the penalty for the first conviction including imprisonment ranging from one to three years, in addition to a fine. Subsequent convictions carry a stiffer penalty of imprisonment between three to seven years, along with a monetary fine.
