The Kwara State Police Command recently made a significant breakthrough in crime prevention by apprehending a suspected ritualist in Ilorin, the State Capital. The arrest came following a distress call reporting an attempted culpable homicide in the area.

On the 2nd of July 2024, at approximately 1800 hrs, the C Division of the Police received a report from the Onidoko Police Post regarding an incident that occurred at 1730 hrs in the Abab Oke-Foma Area of Ilorin. The report detailed that a 10-year-old boy named Akeem Nurudeen, a resident of Abab Area of Abayawo, Ilorin, was hawking pepper when he was lured into a room by a suspect identified as Isiaka Adeniyi, aged 46, from Ifedapo Community, Oke-Foma Area, Ilorin.

According to Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect deceived the victim under the guise of purchasing pepper but instead covered the victim’s face with cloth and attempted to harm him with a knife. Fortunately, vigilant community members intervened, leading to the swift apprehension of the suspect. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Arrest of Kidnapping Syndicate in Delta State

Meanwhile, in Delta State, a notorious gang of four kidnappers operating in the Ughelli axis was brought to justice by the State Police Command. The gang had previously kidnapped and murdered a male resident in the town, resulting in a swift and decisive operation by the police.

Bright Edefe, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed that following credible intelligence and in-depth technical investigation, the operatives managed to apprehend the suspects involved in the heinous crime. One of the gang members was shot dead during the operation, while three others were taken into custody. Additionally, AK-47 rifles were recovered as evidence.

The main suspect, Ismaila Umaru, 28 years old, was arrested in Oghara town, Delta State. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two other gang members, Chede Mohammed, 18 years old, and Mohammadu Sani, 26 years old. During a follow-up operation in the bush, an armed confrontation ensued with other gang members, resulting in the injury and subsequent death of one suspect. An AK-49 rifle was recovered from the hideout, further aiding the ongoing investigation.
