After a devastating two-vehicle collision that claimed the lives of a woman and two young boys, a fundraiser has been initiated to help cover the funeral expenses. The incident occurred on Friday on Highway 4 south of Cochin, prompting a swift response from first responders.
According to a report from the RCMP, the van driven by a 48-year-old woman collided with a truck, resulting in the tragic deaths of the woman and two boys aged five and six. Another woman, identified as the boys’ grandmother and primary caregiver, was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
The victims were members of the Flying Dust First Nation, adding to the tragedy of the situation. To support the family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for the boys’ funeral costs.

Two fatal crashes in the Battleford area
The collision on Highway 4 near Cochin was the first of two fatal crashes in the Battleford area on the same day. Approximately two hours later, another two-vehicle collision occurred seven kilometres south of Battleford, involving a motorhome and an SUV.
Tragically, a 29-year-old woman and a six-month-old boy from Red Pheasant First Nation lost their lives in the second crash. The driver of the SUV and one passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, while an adult male passenger sustained serious injuries and required hospitalisation.
Additionally, a young boy who was in the SUV was airlifted to hospital by STARS with serious injuries. The devastating incidents have left the community in mourning and underscore the importance of road safety measures in the Battleford area.
