A shocking incident occurred at The Shoal hotel in La Jolla, San Diego, where a hotel worker stabbed a woman in the chest before fleeing and driving off a pier into the ocean, where his body was later recovered. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Aaron Tran, was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside a white Honda that was pulled out of the water.

San Diego police have not disclosed the motive behind the attack, but have confirmed that Tran had no prior criminal record before the incident. The authorities were alerted to the incident just after midnight when they received a call from the hotel along La Jolla Boulevard.

Details of the Incident

According to Lieutenant Paul Phillips, two women, described as a foreign exchange student and an out-of-state visitor, checked into a room at the hotel on Sunday. Tran, who had checked them in at the front desk, later called the women claiming there was a leak next door and requested access to their room.

One of the women allowed Tran to enter the room, where he brandished a knife and threatened to harm her. A struggle ensued, during which the woman was stabbed in the chest, although the wound was described as superficial. The women managed to escape and call 911 for help.

Investigation Ongoing

The authorities are still investigating the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the attack and Tran’s subsequent actions. Phillips mentioned that Tran had been employed at the hotel for around six months and there is no indication of any previous similar incidents involving him.

Investigators are currently analysing Tran’s fingerprints and DNA to ascertain if he had been involved in any prior criminal activities. The incident has left the community in shock and the hotel management is cooperating with the authorities in their investigation.
