VIGO COUNTY, Ind. — The community of Vigo County is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Tyler Wilson, who tragically passed away after being struck by a fire department’s pickup truck. The incident occurred on Wednesday, prompting Wilson to be airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries, as reported by WTWO.

According to authorities from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, the Prairieton Fire Department had been responding to a brush fire just outside Terre Haute when the collision occurred. Investigators now suspect that Wilson may have been responsible for starting the fire, which reportedly engulfed 10 bales of hay.

A statement released by the fire department expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, offering condolences to Wilson’s loved ones. The community has been left reeling from the loss of such a young life.

Following the collision, the firefighter operating the truck underwent testing for drugs and alcohol. Fortunately, preliminary results indicated that the individual was not under the influence at the time of the accident.
