A man has been taken into custody following an alleged bomb threat at Georgia Pacific Plywood in Smith County.

On Friday, a bomb threat was reported at Georgia Pacific Plywood, situated just outside Taylorsville, in Smith County. The threat, which was received via text message, led to the evacuation of GP employees as a precautionary measure.

Following the report, Smith County investigators launched an inquiry to identify the individual responsible for the threat.

Shortly after the investigation began, a suspect was apprehended at the scene. The individual in question has been identified as 27-year-old Tobias Smith from Hattiesburg. Smith has been charged with one count of Terroristic Threats and is currently being held at Smith County Jail. A bond hearing is scheduled to take place in the near future.

Prior to the resumption of work at Georgia Pacific Plywood, bomb dogs from the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) were deployed to search the premises for any potential explosive materials.

Sheriff Joel Houston expressed his appreciation to Mississippi Homeland Security and the MHP K9 handlers for their swift response to the threat. He emphasized that such threats are taken very seriously and will not be tolerated within Smith County.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and further charges may be filed as additional information comes to light.
