The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking into an officer-involved shooting incident that took place on Friday afternoon in Montgomery, Texas.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on July 5, 2024, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of a car crash involving a driver who was suspected of being under the influence. The incident occurred near the 7000 block of Forest Hills Drive.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers began searching for the male suspect, who had fled into a densely wooded area. As the deputies combed through the area, the suspect suddenly emerged from hiding and brandished what appeared to be a rifle, pointing it menacingly at the officers.

In response to the imminent threat, a deputy from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office discharged his firearm multiple times in an effort to protect himself and his colleagues. The suspect, upon being confronted with the use of force, dropped the weapon and surrendered to the authorities without further incident.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the “rifle” brandished by the suspect was, in fact, a pellet gun and that no physical harm had been inflicted upon the individual as a result of the shots fired by the deputy.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has mobilized its Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, as well as Crime Scene Investigators, to conduct a comprehensive examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

The suspect involved in the altercation has been identified as 27-year-old Tobias Sangster, a resident of Montgomery. Sangster now faces charges of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Driving While Intoxicated in connection with the incident.
