On the morning of Wednesday, July 3rd, Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of an arson incident involving haystacks in the area of East Cole Road and Bowker Road near Calexico. The incident had occurred the night before, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

Initial investigations by the deputies led to the identification of Robert Lee Law, a 47-year-old transient from Phoenix, Arizona, as the suspect responsible for setting the haystacks on fire. The Imperial County Sheriff’s Agriculture Crimes Investigators were called to the scene to gather evidence and launch a thorough investigation into the incident.

Following the investigation, Law was located, arrested, and subsequently booked into the Imperial County Jail on charges of arson (451 P.C.) and possession of a dirk or dagger (21310 (a) P.C.). Bail was set at $35,000. The case has now been handed over to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office for further legal proceedings.

The authorities are actively looking into whether Law may have been involved in other arson fires in the area, making this an ongoing investigation. Imperial County Sheriff’s Investigator Miguel Verdugo has urged anyone with additional information to come forward and assist in the case by contacting 442-265-2050.
