LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. (WFFT) – A devastating crash on State Road 9 in LaGrange County on Wednesday evening has resulted in the loss of two lives and left another individual hospitalized.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office reported that the accident occurred when two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on State Road 9 near County Road 200 South. The driver of an SUV veered across the center lane, leading to a head-on collision with a pickup truck as the truck driver attempted to swerve to avoid the impact.
Tragically, the driver of the SUV, identified as 77-year-old Phillip Shirmeyer from Wolcottville, Indiana, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. His passenger, 70-year-old Sandra Shirmeyer, passed away while being airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 62-year-old resident of LaGrange, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition by medical personnel.

The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department has indicated that the circumstances leading to the SUV crossing into the opposite lane remain unclear at this time. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
