Two teenagers tragically lost their lives while swimming at Coney Island Beach in Brooklyn, New York, in a heartbreaking incident that has left the community in mourning.
The New York Police Department responded to an emergency call for a water rescue at 8:10 p.m. on Friday, following reports of two females, aged 17 and 18, who had gone into the water and disappeared from view in the area of Stillwell Avenue and Boardwalk West.
Officers from the department’s aviation, harbor, and scuba units immediately launched a search operation. After an intense search effort, divers were able to locate and retrieve both young women from the water.
Tragically, despite efforts to save them, the swimmers were pronounced dead upon arrival at NYC Health and Hospitals/Coney Island. The police have confirmed that their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
