In a recent operation by the Nanaimo RCMP’s special investigations/targeted enforcement unit, a man was apprehended for alleged drug trafficking after being found hiding in the back seat of a vehicle. The bust, which took place at the Victoria Road-Selby Street intersection on April 26, also resulted in the arrest of a woman involved in the illicit activity.

Surprising Discovery

Authorities monitoring prolific offenders observed a suspicious “hand-to-hand” drug transaction from the parked vehicle, prompting them to take action. Upon searching the car, officers were shocked to discover a man concealed under bags in the back seat. The vehicle was filled with suitcases and large bags, as well as a cache of bladed weapons, drug-packaging materials, and suspected fentanyl.

Legal Action

While the woman and another individual were released at the scene, the 51-year-old man found hiding in the back seat was arrested and is currently in custody. He is facing a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking as authorities continue their investigation into the matter.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes in the Nanaimo area. The successful operation highlights the importance of targeted enforcement strategies in apprehending individuals involved in illegal activities and seizing illicit substances and weapons.
