PIERMONT, NH – A resident of Bedford has tragically lost his life in a boating incident on Lake Tarleton in Grafton County.

The Marine Patrol unit of the New Hampshire State Police received a distress call about a reported drowning at Lake Tarleton in Piermont on Friday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m.

According to the investigation conducted by Marine Patrol, two men were fishing on the lake when their canoe overturned, causing them to fall into the water. Despite having personal floatation devices in the canoe, neither of the men were wearing them at the time of the incident.

As the men struggled to stay afloat and retrieve their belongings, one of them noticed that the other was unconscious in the water. Nearby witnesses were alerted and quickly responded by boat to offer assistance.

Despite attempts to revive the unresponsive man, the life-saving efforts were unfortunately unsuccessful.

The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Michael A. Johnson from Bedford, New Hampshire.

New Hampshire State Troopers from Troop F, along with members of the Piermont Police Department, Upper Valley Ambulance, Warren-Wentworth Ambulance Service, and the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, provided assistance to the Marine Patrol at the scene.
