Melva Sebron : “Exciting Magnolia Homecoming in Moss Point”

MOSS POINT, Miss. (WLOX) – The Great Magnolia Homecoming weekend is in full swing as Moss Point Mayor Billy Knight hosted a special brunch for Magnolia alumni. The event was a time for Monarchs and their families to reconnect and reminisce, all while looking towards the future of Moss Point and its students.

One of the highlights of the event was the Class of 1965 Magnolia alumni Melva Sebron, who expressed her excitement about the opportunity to come together with fellow alumni. She emphasised the importance of giving back to the community, continuing to build it up, and providing scholarships for the next generation.

Mayor Knight also took the opportunity to introduce the new Alumni Network, which aims to bridge the gap between Magnolia Monarchs and Moss Point Tigers. The network will serve as a platform for alumni to stay connected and contribute to the betterment of their community.

Speaking about the purpose of the event, Mayor Knight stated, “I want them to think about what their legacy is going to be. What can you do for your city? Party with a purpose. Don’t just come home and have a good time, and you leave, but leave here knowing that you also are making a difference.”

The event also featured positive news about Moss Point Schools, including the introduction of the aviation program. Moss Point is the first school district in Mississippi to offer such a program, with promising young students already working towards earning their private pilot’s license.

In addition to reconnecting with old friends, alumni also got a sneak peek at the plans for the improvement of Magnolia Memorial Park. The Gulf Coast Community Design Studio presented the concept of “Marrying the Old to the New”, which envisions a revitalised park with amenities such as a kid’s zone, pickleball courts, and display panels showcasing the history of the Magnolia Negro School.
