Accident – Death – Obituary News :

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – When Hurricane Beryl wreaked havoc in the Caribbean, hitting St. Vincent as a Category 4 hurricane, it left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Mariah and Mitchell Jones, a newlywed couple from Strawberry Plains, had chosen St. Vincent as their honeymoon destination, unaware of the impending natural disaster. Just a week into their romantic getaway, they found themselves confined to their resort room, fearing for their safety as the powerful hurricane raged outside.

Reflecting on their experience, Mariah Jones shared, “It was surreal to think that we were safe inside while the hurricane was wreaking havoc outside. Witnessing the devastation caused by the storm was truly eye-opening and made us appreciate our safety even more.”

Originally scheduled to fly back home on Monday, the couple’s plans were thwarted by the storm’s arrival, prolonging their stay in St. Vincent. Once the storm subsided and they were able to venture outside, they were greeted by the aftermath of the hurricane, grateful to have emerged unscathed.

As they roamed the island, surveying the damage, Mariah Jones remarked, “It feels like we’re in a state of limbo, with our honeymoon turning into an unexpected adventure. Despite the challenges, we’re just grateful to be safe and together.”

Nearly a week past their original return date, the couple is now set to depart from St. Vincent on Saturday, with a layover in Miami before finally returning home to East Tennessee. Their harrowing experience during Hurricane Beryl will undoubtedly be a story they’ll never forget.
